Aquaculture Degassing Tower
PP degassing towers designed for dissolved carbon dioxide removal and dissolved gas management in recirculating aquaculture systems.
Overview
An aquaculture degassing tower, also called a CO₂ stripping tower or gas stripping tower, is a water-treatment device used in recirculating aquaculture systems to remove dissolved gases from circulating water.
Water is distributed over packing media inside the tower, creating thin water films and increasing the gas-water contact area. Dissolved gases such as carbon dioxide transfer from the water into the gas phase and are continuously removed through the tower's gas extraction system.
In commercial RAS, degassing is commonly used as part of the water-treatment process before treated water returns to the culture tanks.
How It Works
YUTANK degassing towers combine water distribution, packing media, and continuous gas extraction to promote the removal of dissolved gases from circulating RAS water.
RAS water is pumped to the top distribution system and evenly sprayed over the packing media.
The packing media spreads the water into thin films and small streams, increasing the gas-water interface and creating more opportunity for dissolved gases to leave the water.
A gas extraction system at the top of the tower continuously removes released gases from the internal gas space. Natural air exchange through the air inlet helps maintain gas movement through the tower.
As water moves across the packing media, dissolved gases such as carbon dioxide transfer from the water into the gas phase and are then carried out through the extraction system. Degassed water exits from the lower section of the tower.
Water Distribution + Packing Media + Gas Extraction → Increased Gas Transfer → Dissolved Gas Removal
Removal Targets
CO₂ is the primary design target for most RAS degassing applications. Carbon dioxide can accumulate in recirculating systems as a result of fish respiration and biological activity. The degassing process promotes the transfer of dissolved CO₂ from the water into the gas phase, where it can be continuously extracted from the tower.
The degassing process can also help remove dissolved hydrogen sulfide where it is present in the water.
Depending on system conditions, degassing can also contribute to the removal of excess dissolved nitrogen.
Other unwanted dissolved gases may also transfer from the water into the gas phase where their physical properties and operating conditions allow, and can then be removed through the tower's gas extraction system.
Why It Matters
In high-density recirculating aquaculture systems, carbon dioxide can accumulate as a result of fish respiration and biological treatment. Excess dissolved CO₂ can affect water chemistry, fish respiration conditions and the overall efficiency of gas management in a RAS.
Degassing helps reduce the accumulation of dissolved carbon dioxide in recirculating water.
CO₂ removal can support more stable carbonate and pH management within the aquaculture system.
Reducing the dissolved gas load can improve overall gas-management efficiency before water enters downstream oxygenation stages.
As biomass and respiration load increase, effective gas management becomes increasingly important to maintaining stable system conditions.
Advantages
The gas extraction system continuously removes released gases from the tower, helping maintain the conditions required for efficient dissolved gas removal.
Packing media spreads the water into thin films and small streams, increasing the gas-water interface and promoting more efficient gas transfer as water moves through the tower.
The tower body is manufactured from PP polypropylene for aquaculture environments including freshwater, brackish water and seawater.
Six standard flow capacities provide options for different commercial RAS treatment requirements.
Standard models use centrifugal blowers rated from 1.5 to 2.2 kW, depending on model size, to continuously extract released gases from the tower.
The tower is designed for integration into continuously circulating aquaculture water-treatment systems.

Selection Guide
Degassing tower sizing should not be based on total RAS water volume alone. The following factors should be evaluated together:
For this reason, the selected degassing tower should be evaluated as part of the complete RAS water-treatment process, rather than selected only from total system water volume.
RAS Integration
A degassing tower is typically integrated into the recirculating water-treatment loop where dissolved gas removal is required before water returns to the culture tanks.
A typical system configuration may include:
Fish Tank → Mechanical Filtration → Biofiltration → Degassing Tower → Oxygenation → Disinfection → Return Water
The exact equipment sequence depends on the hydraulic design and overall RAS treatment process.
Degassing removes unwanted dissolved gases, while oxygenation adds oxygen to the water. The two processes are often complementary in intensive RAS applications.
Applications
CO₂ and dissolved-gas control in intensive recirculating fish farming systems.
Degassing for commercial freshwater RAS where respiration and biological activity can cause dissolved CO₂ to accumulate.
PP tower construction for marine and seawater recirculating aquaculture applications.
Gas management for broodstock, fry, fingerling and juvenile production systems.
Dissolved-gas management in intensive recirculating shrimp and crustacean culture systems.
Water-treatment support for live seafood holding and temporary culture systems.
Installation
Degassing tower installation should be coordinated with the system flow rate, hydraulic layout, gas-extraction connection, water-distribution system, exhaust routing and maintenance requirements.
Install the tower vertically on a stable, level foundation or steel platform.
Packing media should be evenly installed to the required design height to maintain consistent gas-transfer performance.
The top spray or distribution system should spread incoming water evenly across the packing media. Uneven distribution can reduce the effective gas-water interface and lower degassing performance.
The centrifugal blower should be securely connected to the tower's gas extraction outlet and installed according to the required extraction direction.
Keep the natural air inlet unobstructed so air can enter the tower as designed. The extracted gas outlet should be routed to a well-ventilated outdoor location so discharged gases do not accumulate indoors.
Allow adequate clearance for inspection, cleaning and packing-media maintenance.

Why YUTANK
YUTANK selects degassing equipment as part of the complete RAS water-treatment process rather than treating the tower as an isolated component.
Six standard models cover a range of commercial aquaculture flow requirements.
Model selection can consider treatment flow, biomass, CO₂ load, species, feed input, water temperature and target treatment conditions.
YUTANK can support equipment selection, system integration, installation guidance and commissioning according to project scope.
